At Bright Futures, we believe all students deserve quality education – no matter the cost.
Every parent and educator’s dream is an equal and fair education for all students. But the reality is that education comes at a price. This year, the price tag for operating Bright Futures is an estimated $425,000 – a relatively reasonable amount used primarily to support student success and talent development.
In order to continue offering a variety of experiences to all our students, we require the support of organizations groups and individuals and appreciate any and all levels of support.
If you’re wondering how you can help, consider this – you can choose where your donation goes. It can help a single student’s talent development or help send one student to camp. You could volunteer and cover the cost of your volunteer criminal records and child abuse registry check.
Regardless of your level of support you will receive a tax receipt that you can use when filing your annual income tax.
Please consider helping in any of the following ways.
Each year we require approximately $3,000 for each Bright Futures student - $1,000 for a trust in support of post secondary education and $1,400 for activities and other expenses that assist students in exploring the academic and work world. All students are encouraged to earn $600 in short term incentives dollars to invest in their own interest and talent development.
All Bright Futures activities relate to our two primary goals. Some activities focus on assisting students to feel comfortable and connected with the program and most involve transportation costs to post secondary campuses and career exploration activities. The transportation cost for most activities range from $60-$150.
The Bright Futures budget also supports the salaries of our staff. Each day the Student Parent Support Workers (SPSW) work directly with the students in their mentorship group. We strive to maintain a ratio of 25:1. This ratio ensures that SPSWs get to know each student and family they work with. They regularly meet with parent guardians in person, by phone and by email to update on progress and celebrate successes.
The SPSWs talk with each student’s teachers and share school work improvement recommendations with the volunteer tutors who regularly supports a student’s work at our 660 Sheppard Program Centre.
